The Jubilee:
I tuned into BBC1 this lunchtime to see the whole country sing All You Need Is Love. I was shocked....
The first and most blatant bastardisation of the song was the fact that it didn't begin with the first few bars of the Marseillaise. I couldn't believe they would pander to the royals quite so much.
And I imagine that they thought, "We'll pick a song that everybody knows." And you would think so. But it was sung so wrongly. There were extraneous rounds of "love, love, love", which made the whole song sound insincere. The people of Manchester managed, in unison to sing the wrong tune during the chorus. Lines were repeated when it was remembered that the line was sung early... it was a shambles.
Not exactly Perfect Day, then....
Cheers,
Derek.
